Grade 6, 7 and 8 are the romantic performance syllabi. The major focus is on romantic style and quality. An artistic performance is extremely important as well as a true understanding of the dynamics and musicality
To be eligible for the Graded Examinations it is mandatory that the students attend the GRADED SYLLABUS CLASSES twice a week, show training and other classes are not included in this. This is to enable us to fulfill training hours recommended by the RAD(70 Hours)
-
Syllabus – The Vocational syllabi are very different to the graded system. The work is purely classical with no character or free movement work, this is replaced with pointe work. This works beautifully in conjunction with the grades as the focus is far more on technique and the purity of the movement, as a higher standard is required to pass the vocational exams. There is a wider range of steps covered when working with both grades and vocational syllabi, such as double pirouettes and 'battu' (beating jumps) which are not covered in the grades, this greatly accelerates their learning. From Intermediate Foundation to Advanced Foundation they are also required to perform a Free Enchainement. This is an exercise taught verbally by the examiner from a particular list of steps, they must learn and perform the enchainement in the exam to music chosen by the examiner on the day. For this the student must have excellent understanding of the steps quality, technique and dynamic, as well as musicality and the ability to link the steps together correctly. It is a very mature as pect of the vocational exams and is not performed in the graded work. As a result of these factors, students are given the opportunity to take an exam (either filmed or live), when the individual student has reached the required standard. This may be 5 or 6 terms of training. Each vocational grade has recommended training hours by the RAD and are set as below:
Intermediate Foundation – 275 hours
Intermediate – 275 hours
Advanced Foundation – 275 hours
Advanced One – 325 hours
Advanced Two – 375 hours
All decisions are made between Miss Helen, Miss Nicola and Miss Kate and are made with the student’s best interest in mind.
As with the graded syllabi, the vocational exam carry UCAS points with can be used in their application to university. The points are shown on the certificate but for more information on this please speak to Miss Helen.
