WE OFFER THE FOLLOWING TRAINING PROGRAMMES:

Beginner Ballet Programme

These classes are for our youngest pupils. We start classes from just 3 yrs and children will continue in this programme until they are 6 years. We have 4 levels in our Beginner Ballet Programme.

 

Pre School 1 (3–4yrs)
pre school 2 (4-5yrs)

As with the schooling system we provide two levels of Pre school training. Level 1 is for children who are 3 years old on the 1st of September of that year. Level 2 is for children who are 4 years old on the 1st of September of that year.

Level 1 is a 30 min class in which ballet is taught alongside the student’s natural gross and fine motor development, working predominantly in parallel, using English terminology, and developing important habits such as, pointing the feet when lifting them off the floor, correct weight placement and posture.

Level 2 is a 45 min class which adds to the concentration stamina and further develops the introduction to balletic technique laying the ground work for Pre Primary. Students are expected to begin to remember the exercises and perform them without a demonstration.

Pre PrimarY
(5–6yrs)

Pre Primary is for children who are 5 years old on the 1st of September of that year.
Ballet is taught alongside the student’s natural gross and fine motor development, working predominantly in parallel, using English terminology, and developing important habits such as, pointing the feet when lifting them off the floor, correct weight placement and posture. Students are expected to learn the exercises by heart and perform them to a high standard.

Primary Ballet
(6–7yrs)

Primary is for children who are 6 years old on the 1st of September of that year.
Ballet is taught alongside the student’s natural gross and fine motor development, working predominantly in parallel, using English terminology, and developing important habits such as, pointing the feet when lifting them off the floor, correct weight placement and posture. Students are expected to learn the exercises by heart and perform them to a high standard.

Junior Programme

The Junior Programme is for students aged 7 and above.

 

Junior Programme

Students are required to train for a minimum of three hours per week. This can be made up of a variety of classes:

  • Grade 1 Ballet Royal Academy of Dance - This is a syllabus class for 7 year olds where by specific choreography is studied. An annual examination is offered to those attending this class twice a week.

  • Grade 2 Ballet Royal Academy of Dance - This is a syllabus class for 8 year olds where by specific choreography is studied. An annual examination is offered to those attending this class twice a week.

  • Progressions in Ballet Technique (PBT) - This is a class for strength and conditioning, designed by Marie Walton Mahon this class uses a number of props to help engage the correct muscle groups to enhance their classical technique. PBT helps with injury prevention and enhances the ability of any student to perform at their best.

  • Non syllabus class - This class includes classical repertoire and comprehensive technique training to support their graded work. The non syllabus class allows us to introduce students to steps they would not normally come across when only doing syllabus work.

  • Junior Contemporary Dance - This class allows the students to break away from their classical technique and explore more freedom of movement. During this class various contemporary techniques are explored as well as working on longer pieces of choreography.

  • Junior Show Training - In this class students prepare pieces for our termly productions at The Theatre, including The Nutcracker and Summer Gala.

Junior Programme requirements

Students must arrive promptly and be ready to start class on time. They must bring plenty of water with them to class. All bags and belongings must be left outside of the studio. No valuables are to be brought to the venue.

Ballet Uniform

  • Female students are required to wear a marine blue leotard, ballet tights, and ballet shoes. They must also bring a character skirt and character shoes to all their RAD classes.

  • Male students are required to wear a white capped sleeved or sleeve-less leotard, navy blue or black leggings, white socks and black or white ballet shoes. They must also bring character shoes to all of their RAD classes.

  • Long hair must be tied back in a secure bun.

  • No jewelry is to be worn

PBT Uniform

  • Students must wear their leotards and tights with bare feet. Hair is not required to be in a bun for this class.

Contemporary Uniform

  • Students must wear their leotards and black tights or leggings and bare feet.

Show training Uniform

  • Students must wear their ballet uniform.

Intermediate Programme

The Intermediate Programme is for children aged 9 and up.

 

Intermediate Programme

Students are required to train for a minimum of three hours per week. This can be made up of a variety of classes:

  • Grade 3 Ballet Royal Academy of Dance - This is a syllabus class for 9 year olds where by specific choreography is studied. An annual examination is offered to those attending this class twice a week.

  • Grade 4 Ballet Royal Academy of Dance - This is a syllabus class for 10 year olds where by specific choreography is studied. An annual examination is offered to those attending this class twice a week.

  • Grade 5 Ballet Royal Academy of Dance - This is a syllabus class for 11 year olds where by specific choreography is studied. An annual examination is offered to those attending this class twice a week.

  • Intermediate Foundation Ballet Royal Academy of Dance - This is a syllabus class for 11 year olds where by specific choreography is studied. An annual examination is offered to those attending this class twice a week.

  • Beginner pointe - For this class students will be assessed and invited to join by Miss Helen.

  • Intermediate Pointe - This class is for those students who are already studying pointe.

  • Intermediate Contemporary Dance - This class allows the students to break away from their classical technique and explore more freedom of movement. During this class various contemporary techniques are explored as well as working on longer pieces of choreography.

  • Intermediate Show Training - In this class students prepare pieces for our termly productions at The Theatre, including The Nutcracker and Summer Gala.

  • Repertoire - In this class students studying Grade 5 Ballet or higher learn professional solo variations from world famous ballets.

  • Long hair must be tied back in a secure bun.
